WFCG, Ohio Fuel Cell Industry are Making Headlines
Ohio’s fuel cell industry has been steadily expanding since the implementation
of the Third Frontier Fuel Cell Program in 2003. Activity within
the industry has now attracted the attention of the
media, and several articles have resulted. Recent announcements
such as GrafTech’s $2.3 million DOE funding, partnerships between in-
and out-of-state companies, and fuel cell companies relocating to Ohio
are just a few examples of topics covered.
A Nov. 12 edition of The Plain Dealer, headlined "Ohio's Now a Leader in Fuel Cells," reported that Ohio is emerging as a leader in the fuel cell industry. The article also discussed:
- Rolls-Royce’s decision to establish its fuel cell division
headquarters at Stark State College of Technology’s Fuel Cell
Prototyping Center;
- HydroGen Corp.’s prototype fuel cell power plant at the Ashta Chemicals factory in Ashtabula, and
- GrafTech’s $2.3 million federal grant to continue working on lighter, stronger graphite parts for automotive fuel cells.
Earlier this month, the Akron Beacon Journal showcased the
Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition as part of a week long series on the Charter
One Global Enterprise Center in Cleveland. The Jan. 8 article,
entitled “An Industry Powers Up”
details how projects such as Stark State College of Technology’s
new Fuel Cell Prototyping Center are positioning Ohio as a global
destination for fuel cell growth.
Even the airwaves are buzzing about fuel cells. On Jan. 17, Wright Fuel Cell Group’s Director Tom Zawodzinski and
Ken Alfred, executive director of the Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition,
discussed the current state of Ohio’s fuel cell industry on Cleveland’s
90.3 WCPN’s Sound of Ideas program. During the interview,
Alfred explained how the fuel cell industry has already started to
stimulate economic growth in Ohio. Listen to Alfred’s and Zawodzinski’s
interview
